Your adventure begins with a hotel pickup, where your English-speaking tour guide will greet you and lead you through the city’s most remarkable attractions.

Your first stop is Wat Si Saket, one of the oldest temples in Vientiane. Known for its stunning architecture and the thousands of Buddha images lining its walls, Wat Si Saket offers a peaceful environment for reflection. Following this, you will visit the COPE Visitor Centre, where you’ll learn about Laos’ history with unexploded ordnance (UXO) and its ongoing efforts to clear these remnants from the land, affecting local communities.

This temple is a significant symbol of Laos’ religious heritage and showcases incredible artifacts from the country's past. You’ll then marvel at Pha That Luang, the Great Sacred Stupa, a national symbol of Laos, revered for its golden structure and spiritual significance. Afterward, visit Patuxai, Vientiane’s Victory Monument, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes.

Your journey continues to Vat That Khao, one of Vientiane's oldest Buddhist temples, where you can explore its historical and cultural importance. Finally, conclude your tour at Buddha Park, a serene park filled with over 200 Buddhist and Hindu statues. The park provides a peaceful retreat, perfect for relaxation and contemplation.

Tour Plan

8:00 AM – Pickup from Your Vientiane Hotel

Your tour begins with a comfortable pickup directly from your hotel in Vientiane. Meet your professional, English-speaking tour guide, who will be with you throughout the day to provide fascinating insights and stories about Vientiane’s rich culture and history. Sit back and relax as you travel through the city in an air-conditioned vehicle.

Wat Si Saket

The first stop of your Vientiane private sightseeing tour is Wat Si Saket, one of the oldest and most well-preserved temples in the city. Built in the early 19th century, Wat Si Saket is unique for its architecture, which combines Lao and Thai styles. As you explore the temple, you’ll notice over 2,000 Buddha images adorning the walls and the cloister, making it an incredible site for photography and reflection. Your guide will share the history of the temple, its importance to local religious practices, and the stories of the Buddha statues that have been there for centuries.

COPE Visitor Centre

Next, you’ll head to the COPE Visitor Centre, a moving and educational stop where you’ll learn about the ongoing impact of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Laos. Laos remains one of the most heavily bombed countries in the world, and the COPE Centre provides insight into the UXO crisis that affected the country during the Vietnam War. Through interactive exhibits, documentaries, and personal stories, you’ll discover the efforts being made to clear these dangerous remnants and help the victims. This visit offers a unique and sobering perspective on Laos’ history, which is often overlooked in traditional tours.

Ho Pra Keo (Wat Ho Phakeo)

Your next stop is the Ho Pra Keo Temple (also known as Wat Ho Phakeo), a former royal temple that housed the famous Emerald Buddha statue, one of the most sacred Buddhist relics in the world. Although the statue is no longer in Laos, the temple remains an important historical and cultural site. As you walk around the beautifully manicured gardens and explore the temple’s stunning architecture, your guide will explain the significance of this temple in Laos’ history and its connections to both Buddhism and royal life.

Pha That Luang (Great Sacred Stupa)

One of the most iconic landmarks in Laos, Pha That Luang is a must-see on any Vientiane city tour. This grand stupa, which stands at 45 meters tall, is the most important Buddhist monument in Laos. It is said to contain a relic of the Buddha, making it a significant pilgrimage site. You’ll have time to explore the stunning golden stupa and the surrounding courtyard, which features smaller shrines and peaceful gardens. Your guide will explain the history of the stupa, its religious significance, and the architectural style that makes it one of the most beautiful landmarks in Southeast Asia.

Patuxai (Victory Monument)

After Pha That Luang, head over to Patuxai, Vientiane’s victory monument, which resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris but with a distinctly Laotian twist. Built in the 1960s, Patuxai was constructed to commemorate those who fought for independence from France. The monument’s design incorporates traditional Lao motifs and symbols, including floral patterns and images of Buddhist beliefs. Climb to the top for a panoramic view of the city, where you can take in the sprawling landscape of Vientiane and its surrounding mountains.

Vat That Khao

Next, make your way to Vat That Khao, a peaceful Buddhist temple that offers a more tranquil and serene experience compared to the larger, more visited temples in the city. Vat That Khao is notable for its historic significance as one of the oldest temples in Vientiane, dating back to the 16th century. You’ll learn about the temple’s role in the religious history of Laos and its connection to the ancient royal dynasties. Enjoy the quiet atmosphere, where you can reflect on the day’s journey and appreciate the beauty of traditional Lao architecture.

Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan)

The final stop on your full-day Vientiane city tour is Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan), located about 25 kilometers outside of Vientiane. This surreal park is filled with over 200 Hindu and Buddhist statues, ranging from tiny to colossal in size. The park’s most famous feature is its massive reclining Buddha, which stretches more than 40 meters in length. As you walk through the park, your guide will tell you the fascinating story of the park’s creation and the symbolism behind the diverse range of statues. The park is also known for its playful, whimsical designs, and it offers numerous photo opportunities.

Return to Your Vientiane Hotel

After a full day of exploration, history, and culture, your tour concludes with a comfortable drop-off back at your Vientiane hotel. You’ll leave with lasting memories of Vientiane’s stunning temples, landmarks, and rich cultural heritage.

Great private tour! Worth the cost. Enjoyed the excursions.

Not much to see in Vientiane and this tour covers most of it. Buddha park was nice although very run down for only being ~75 years old. Lunch was wonderful and being included helped lower the overall experience cost...

Vientiane’s marvels

This private tour was well organized. The guide Chansay was competent and welcoming. The tour was flexible and could be adapted to the participant. Everything was worth seeing. The chauffeur was reliable and the bus comfortable. A walk on Friendship bridge #1 was interesting and appreciated, but could not cross to Thailand my visa being single entry only. This activity a must when visiting Vientiane!..

Great tour to start off your first time adventure to Laos

Really enjoyed this tour with our guide Mr. Chansay Nanthavong. Originally thought the full day would be too much but it was perfect. Also had lower expectations for the Buddha Park based on some reviews but I found it to be most interesting and I'm glad it was included. This tour really does hit the highlights of Vientiane and it is a good introduction to Laos and its culture since it was our second day in the country. Lunch was also delicious and you could try anything and everything you wanted. Mr. Chansay has good English and a wealth of knowledge about the history as well as the current culture. The price may seem high but it was actually a good value...
